Sending money to the Philippines from the UK
How to get the most pesos for your pounds, choose how your family collects it, and send safely.
The quick answer
Compare providers on how many pesos your family receives for the pounds you pay. That one number includes both the fee and the exchange rate, so it shows the real cost.
Why the rate matters: most providers add a margin to the real (mid-market) exchange rate. A provider with no fee but a weaker rate can cost you more than one that charges a small fee, especially on larger amounts.
How your family can receive the money
| Method | Good for | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Bank account | Regular support, larger amounts | Account name exactly as on the bank record; which banks the provider pays into |
| E-wallet (GCash, Maya) | Fast payments to a phone | Wallet is verified and its limits can take the amount |
| Cash pickup | Family without a bank account | Nearest partner branch, opening hours and the ID they must bring |
| Home delivery | Older relatives or remote areas | Whether the service covers their area and the extra cost |
Before you send: a checklist
- The provider is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. You can check on the FCA register.
- You have compared the amount received, not just the fee.
- The recipient’s name matches their ID or account exactly.
- You know when the money will arrive and how they will be told.
- You keep the transfer reference until it has been collected.
Watch out for scams. Be wary of urgent requests from someone you have only met online, or a message from a “relative” using a new number. Call the person on a number you already know before you send anything.
